This expression dates back to the 1800s and comes from the sport of boxing. In boxing, athletes wear gloves over their hands. This protects their fists from getting hurt with each blow. More importantly, it protects the person they are competing against from getting too injured from the punches to the face and body. If a boxer removed his or her gloves, the sport would become much more dangerous and rough.
We are in battle daily, with the enemy. The forces of darkness are constantly working against us. We as the people of God, of truth, of light, must walk into battle with this mindset: Today, THE GLOVES ARE OFF! Meaning, we're in this fight and we are going to give it everything we've got.
You may ask, how do I fight like that?
1> Recognize Your Opponent. (Eph. 6:12)
When you’re being attacked, it’s proof that you’re a believer. The more you do for God, the more the Devil is going to fight you. It will get more intense.
2> Use Your God Given Power (Luke 10:19, Acts 1:8)
Most Holy Ghost filled believers, do not realize the power inside of them, once they are spirit filled! Gods spirit living in us, gives us the authority over every demon, enemy, and over the works of Satan.
3>Putting On The Armor of God (Eph. 6:11-17)
Put on God’s armor, so that the enemy will not catch you off guard. You can’t defeat the enemy in your own strength or with your own intellect. Only God’s armor can keep you and protect you from the traps of the enemy. Only God’s Word can defeat and destroy the enemy’s tactics.
4> Prayer Is Your Artillery (James 5:16)
Prayer is one of the most powerful tools in our arsenal. Our prayers keep us connected with God, strengthens us, and keeps us grounded. It is the weapon of all weapons on the battlefield.
We don’t have to put up with spiritual attacks of any kind. We have the tools to take the fight to the enemy and get aggressive in our prayer lives. We can "take the gloves off" and fight with all that's in us. In spiritual warfare, prayer is the weapon that anchors us in the place of victory.
We are victorious! -Sis. M. Hendrick
